Sri Lanka

Set in the Indian Ocean in South Asia, the tropical island nation of Sri Lanka has 2500 years of well chronicled history. It is a place where the original soul of Buddhism still flourishes and where nature's beauty remains abundant and unspoilt. Arthur C. Clarke aptly describes Sri Lanka as "the best place in which to view the universe."

Sri Lanka has ample to offer: Scenery, adventure, wild life, sun and fun, historical interests, nice hotels, great cuisine, folk dance, arts and crafts and a different culture of smiling people.

With 8 UNESCO World Heritage sites in its kitty, Sri Lanka boasts some of the best preserved Asian monuments. The historical sites of Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Sigiriya provide evidence of a proud past, and the marvels of ancient engineering.

Golden sands, ever blue sea, east or west the isle promises a wonderful journey. Negombo, Hikkaduwa (Coral Gardens), Bentota and Unawatuna are the most famous tourist beach resorts. If you need the experience in isolation you will find hundreds of remote places along the coastline with tourist facilities.

Sri Lanka also has immense religious and historical importance and is known for a number of festivals and celebrations.

In the wildlife sanctuaries of Sri Lanka it is possible to see elephants in their wild habitat as well as peacocks, leopards, monkeys, boars, crocodiles and a variety of beautiful birds. Yala National Park, Horton Plains National Park & Maduru Oya National Park deserves a special mention.
